Dr. Hanson is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery joining AOA in September, 2024.

Dr. Hanson was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri, where he was a recipient of the Mizzou '39 Award, an honor recognizing the 39 most-distinguished graduating seniors each year.

He received his medical degree from The University of Missouri School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in Atlanta, Georgia at Atlanta Medical Center and Kennestone Regional Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where he was trained by some of the nation’s top hand and upper extremity surgeons.

Dr. Hanson has published multiple peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters on topics related to hand and upper extremity pathology, and has presented his research at regional and national meetings. He enjoys staying up to date with the latest technology and treatments available to his patients.

Dr. Hanson’s practice includes comprehensive care for adult and pediatric upper extremity conditions. His specialty training focuses on trauma, reconstruction, nerve and tendon disorders, microsurgery, and arthroscopy of the wrist, elbow and shoulder.

Outside of his professional and academic life, Dr. Hanson enjoys golfing, skiing, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his wife, daughter and their two border collies.
